My Thoughts on Pokemon Presents | February 2021

Hey guys! As I’m writing, we’ve just had the Pokemon Presents, and I would have had this up earlier but I did have posts scheduled up until day of posting, and I also wanted to get some perspective and peer opinions. I wasn’t able to take part in any react streams (or set one up myself) because the time of the Presents also happened to coincide with the drop of Sneak’s new Neon Punch flavour, and you know I gotta get in on that!

It’s the first Presents or Direct I’ve reacted to in a while, so I’ll go over each piece of news and just give you my opinions. I managed my expectations, and all I expected was a bit more information on New Pokemon Snap, as well as some mobile app news for the likes of Pokemon GO and Pokemon Masters EX. I did promote my Sinnoh Remake Wishlist/Expectations post just to get on the hype train a little bit.

We started off with a timeline of everything that’s happened with each generation, from Link Cables to USB Link, the anime series, the games, and the very app that started this blog – Pokemon GO. Oh the lag was real though! It did serve as a reminder to rewatch Detective Pikachu though. This took up a lot of the 20-minute run-time, though, not that it’s a bad thing, but it shows just how much happened over the last 25 years.

New Pokemon Snap

Because this is coming soon, we knew this was going to be featured. I’ve been excited for this game since it was announced, as I never got to play the original. The Pokemon in the habitats already look amazing in this feature, and the Pokemon look really dynamic and lively. This is kinda what I wanted more from the Sword/Shield games, with the added characterisation, but I suppose this is more a feature for a game that relies heavily on how the Pokemon interact with the surroundings.

I also love the idea of photo editing, making the great photo perfect! You bet I’ll be collecting my own set of photos of all of the Pokemon when I get this! It releases on 30th April, so I’m definitely buying it then!

We currently have updates featuring Gigantamax Pikachu, Leon and Charizard in Masters EX, Cafe Mix and Pokemon Go events. Not really much to go over there, just stuff that’s already happening in-game.

Sinnoh Remakes

Yes, we are getting Sinnoh remakes! You know something, I was expecting this! I even wrote a post of my expectations and hopes for the remakes! I’m hyped for this, and it kinda feels surreal actually seeing

The games look more like a combination of the Let’s Go and X/Y graphics, which I’m pleased with. It feels like it keeps the games more faithful to the original style in a way, and with it being outsourced to the developers of Pokemon HOME, it makes sense. Of course we’d need to adjust after the graphics of Sword/Shield, and especially when the next point of discussion launches, but it’s not as if it’s the permanent graphic style that we’re getting in future Pokemon games.

Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, releasing late 2021. Yep, I’m going for Brilliant Diamond straight off the bat, it has my favourite Legendary. Not the titles I would have given them, but you know something? I’d like to see Giratina’s story somewhere in the post-game. All in all, I’d like a good shiny hunting method *PokeRadar*.

I’m choosing either Turtwig or Piplup. Fuck Chimchar.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus

We also got a new addition in the Pokemon series that we didn’t exactly expect. This also takes place in the Sinnoh region, like it’s an older version. It featured Oshawott, Rowlet and Cyndaquil as starters (for some reason), and Arceus in the promotion. Heck it, I’m taking Cyndaquil for it!

It feels like the open-world Pokemon region that people wanted, with battles and to build the first Sinnoh dex. The catching mechanic seems very interesting too. I love the idea of a feudal-era Sinnoh before the heavy civilisation. I even love the design of the older PokeBalls, and I kinda wish we’d see them in regular games.

What even is this? I was not expecting this at all. I’m so excited for it though, and I want to see more!

Those were my thoughts on the Presents! What were your thoughts? Let me know!
