Dragon-type Pokemon are some of the most revered due to their amazing resistances and brute strength. They did rank highest on my Best Pokemon Types post, so that’s a testament to their popularity. So here are my ten favourite Dragon-types.
Drampa looks so soft and heavenly, doesn’t he? Even in its Pokedex entry it protects children – ‘If a child it has made friends with is bullied, Drampa will find the bully’s house and burn it to the ground.’ Now I don’t condone arson, but holy crap.
Juan’s Kingdra gives me nightmares to this day, but I still really like the simplicity of Kingdra. It’s not as flashy as Seadra, but I think it just looks more majestic, like a king, if you will. Do we not give Kingdra enough credit? Probably not, except for here.
Garchomp is a beastly powerhouse, and that’s before its Mega Evolution (in which it admittedly gets a bit worse). If anything could look any more pseudo-legendary, it’s Garchomp. As of writing this I just found my old Diamond save, and just about to grind to the Elite Four. Wish me luck!
I said that Drampa looked very soft and heavenly, but so does Altaria. It’s a cloud, but if the cloud was coloured a light pink and blue, it’d look like a very tasty bird indeed. Winona’s Altaria in Emerald scared the living crap out of me.
I don’t see enough love for Dragalge. It’s based on the sea dragon, which I think are absolutely lovely creatures to look at. I mean, I don’t like how it takes so long to evolve from Skrelp considering Skrelp’s awful stats.
To be completely honest, even Noibat takes so long to evolve into Noivern, but Noivern wins out because of its badass design. If there was a sound-based type, Noivern would be it. The German names for both Noibat and Noivern are interesting – eF-eM and UHaFnir respectively.
It’s the goddamn arm heads again I can’t even. I’ve said enough about this thing in other posts. We love Hydreigon, still.
Rayquaza is amazing, yet also completely broken (especially in its Mega Evolution). It’s so awesome and definitely deserves a special place on this list. It was fun playing through Emerald and seeing it for the first time was amazing. It makes a solid impression, I give it credit.
For the first time in top 10 history, we have a tie! Winner, winner, two chicken dinners! Dialga is just an epic beast, with so many resistances coming from the dual Steel/Dragon-type combination. I love the design as well, and it makes me glad that I played Diamond all those years ago.
I’m sure you’re aware by now that Dragapult keeps slaughtering these top 10 lists, where before its release, things would have been different, to say the least. I had this particular one spoilt for me pre-release, but I could tell that it was a pseudo-legendary and that I wanted one on my team. And yes, I actually used one on my final team.
