20 Things For 2020

Hey everyone! The end of the year is drawing near, and I’d like to focus on self-improvement and the future. So I’m listing 20 things that I want to achieve for 2020 and beyond! When this goes up, I’ll already be working on some of these!

  • Work on the flat

I recently moved into a two-bedroom flat, with Connor, my partner of seven years. We still have a lot of work to do, and it’s not fully furnished or decorated, so we’ll be looking to work on having a home environment where we’re happy – not that we aren’t! We just need to get a lot done because there was so much that needed doing due to the negligence of the previous tenants and partly to the landlord. It’s a topic I will eventually come to going over in a future post.

  • Home renovation & building

I know just started renting this flat, but at the same time, my new dream ambition is to be able to build my own house. My former dream ambition was to move abroad, and I’ve done that. I know it’ll take a lot of money, so that’s a story for a Lottery win! However, it doesn’t hurt to plan out what could be, and if I save up enough money, that dream could be a reality in maybe 20 years. I’ve been inspired by the likes of Hermione Chantal, who has been renovating her house for the past (nearly) two years, and her channel’s great – plus I love a great home renovation vlog series! If you like home renovation and DIYs, check her out! She’s a lovely person on Twitter, too!

Other than that, I do have a passion for interior design, so it’s going to be a year of looking at designs and inspiration from here on out, I think.

  • Work on my mental health

I still struggle with depression, anxiety and slight trauma. This all came from my previous home life, so it was imperative that I moved out as soon as possible. In 2020, I will work on therapy, even if it means counselling. While my alcoholic step-dad is still an ass who keeps posting ‘piss take’ on his Facebook profile every other drunken weekend, I’m on a path to continuous self-improvement.

  • Weight loss

I think weight loss will feature heavily in 2020 – I had an Instagram account dedicated to it, but I haven’t used it in a long time. I feel that this would be the place where I would document the progress (not like a food diary). Food is an issue for me, and I want to be able to be comfortable in my own skin again.

  • Get a medical check-up

I feel that the reason why my foot and knee have been playing up, among other things, is weight-related. I want to make sure that I’ll be in good enough shape to be able to not have to suffer from these issues. There’s also a huge thing that I’ve been wanting to have done for a long time, but I want to be confident in my ability to see it through and to get that approval. I made a binder and everything, saying why I should be considered for the surgery.

  • Kick addictions

Kicking addictions comes hand-in-hand with weight loss – I’m currently addicted to cherry Pepsi and sweets. It’s awful feeling the need to have that drink or that treat. But allowing myself to not have to rely on those vices will help in the long run.

  • Find a good exercise routine

Conveniently, I have a friend that runs dance classes for fitness! I’m looking to be able to find a good exercise routine once I’ve lost some weight that’ll help me with my injury issues. Now that I’m living in my own place, I’m free to come and go without judgement of others!

  • Become employable and find work

The bane of this past year has been finding solid work. Currently, I’m doing a work placement at a community centre as a receptionist, and I love it so far. I’m tempted to carry on volunteering there once my placement period is over, though. But my main focus is developing my current skill set and hopefully getting a job.

  • Carry on volunteering

I love working at my placement at the moment, and while I’ll have finished by the time I have this posted, I know now that I want to return to volunteer while I’m still unemployed. I’ve been gaining vital experience in areas that I want to gain the experience, and

  • Travel more

I’d love to travel some more, even if it’s to the same places as normal. One of my favourite cities is Nottingham, which I want to visit again for my birthday (the third year in a row, would be nice). I also want to be able to save up and revisit Lisbon before 2020 is out. I’d work on having fun and telling you guys about it! And with that, comes my next point:

  • Work on the blog

The blog is one area that I want to improve upon a lot. I want to put a lot of work into making sure that the blog reaches new people and still retains you guys because you are amazing just by visiting or liking my posts (or comments, please don’t be shy!). I did set up a lifestyle blog, but I’m thinking of combining the two. So if you’re not into Pokemon content, you can come here for the lifestyle stuff! If you’re a fan of author stuff, then we’ll have that too! I might do a little bit of mental health as a focus point – there’s so much I want to do, and I need help making sure it’s not going to blow up in my face if I do it wrong.

  • Work on writing

After doing the November Writing Challenge, I’m very much interested in writing more short stories. I’ve seen a sponsored post for a writing competition, and I’m planning on entering, just for the giggles. I’d get feedback on my work, so it’d be a great learning curve for me. The challenge had been the first time I’d sat down and done some fiction writing in a long time, after struggling writing a full novel. I’m hoping that within a few years I can get a book of short stories published. However, I want to write a few short stories of my own. I may even re-write some of my November short stories if I feel the need.

  • Sort my posts

I have a diary that I keep religiously, and it’s amazing. It’s a 17-month diary that spans from August 2019 until end of December 2020. I got it from TK Maxx (TJ Maxx for the rest of the world, we’re awkward here in the UK). And I plan my posts in there for when they go out (I’m doing it right now, actually). But sometimes I do neglect to put them out in time, and therefore I have a lot of posts in drafts – 15 at the time in writing. I’m hoping to get it below ten and keep it that way throughout 2020.

  • Declutter (again)

I feel that a regular declutter is so helpful to a decluttered life. I had a major declutter twice this year – once in May, and the second just before I moved to my flat. I’m also going to help Connor declutter. It’s always a load off my mind when I have a declutter, and there’s more space to move around and feeling very organised.

  • Maintain my social circle

I’ve made a lot of friends, especially through Pokemon Go, and I’m determined to keep those friendships. I’m so grateful for the support I’ve had, and it’s been refreshing since moving home (I keep reflecting on it but it’s true). I also can’t wait to carry on playing D&D and other roleplay games. Being socially awkward is awful, and I hate it, but that’s down to my past being, well, my past.

  • Start streaming

I’m looking to start streaming when I have the office set up, and eventually do a 24-hour stream to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. There are so many games I’d love to stream, and I want to get immersed in having motivation to play games.

  • Learn a language (again)

It sounds simple, but I have difficulty learning languages as I’m getting older. I’m looking to see if I can find study guides on Portuguese or even German because it’s nice to know something new. I’ve let my Portuguese skills slip, although I remember some tiny bits and words.

  • Go to a concert

Billy Talent, my favourite band, have just released new material. So if all goes right, I want to see them live for the first time! I didn’t get to go to a concert when they toured in 2016, but at the same time, I couldn’t afford to because I was saving up for a trip to Dublin instead. Hopefully, this time around it’ll happen!

  • Become an advocate for domestic abuse in families

I want to use whatever platform I can in order to advocate for mental health and domestic abuse awareness in a family environment. I want to use my experience and be able to help at least just one person. I want to make a difference to someone because I got out, so hopefully, they will too.

  • Cosplay

I’ve been wanting to cosplay last year, and I never got around to doing it. I really want to get into that or at least try to this year. But I have a lot of ideas, it’s just down to executing them!
