I curse Niantic as to why they can’t release all of the information at the same time. So here goes yet another blog post about the newest event.
Pokemon Go will celebrate its third anniversary soon, and there is a plethora of things happening for all players.
The event starts from Friday, June 28th at 1pm PDT (so 9pm UK time).
The first part of the event is a permanent addition – shiny Alolan Pokemon will be available. Yes, ALL Alolan Pokemon will be shiny:
These will all be shiny from tomorrow night going forth. This is massive for the 7km eggs, as we’ve been grinding to hatch the shiny babies, and disgruntled when we see Alolans instead. It’s also not been worth shiny-checking Alolan Rattata until now, so it’s brilliant to see this at long last. However, I’m interested when the Kantonian versions of shiny Vulpix, Meowth and Exeggcute will be released.
We will also see team leader avatar items in the Style Shop. Not a huge thing, but it’s there.
The second part starts from Friday June 28th until Saturday July 6th. Once per day, you may have the chance to encounter the party-hat Pikachu by using the Go Snapshot feature. Party-hat Pichu will also be hatchable via 7km eggs.
The third part, and perhaps the biggest, starts from Friday June 28th until Monday 2nd September. Players at level 10 or higher can take part in Jump-Start Research, a new Special Research for rewards that can jump-start their adventures, whether old or new. There isn’t much information aside from this as to what this means yet, but it’s quite exciting nonetheless, even with me being a veteran player.
There will also be massive raid bonuses – if you can take down Raid Bosses faster, you can earn extra bonus Premier Balls. I feel this is to enable people to speed-complete a raid for rewards.
The last part is why I’m cursing my luck – I just traded for a shiny Kyogre and now there’ll be decreased Stardust cost for trading – 1/4 less, to be precise. So a Legendary/Shiny trade with a Best Friend would only cost 30,000 Stardust instead of 40,000.
Now I want to discuss the promo image used for this. It’s a great image, and I noticed five things in particular I want to discuss. The first, most obvious part is Jirachi. I’m hoping that we will get Jirachi Research very soon – I’m too excited for it, as Jirachi is my favourite Mythical Pokemon. The second is the appearance of Mime Jr. in the foreground. Whether Mime Jr. will be released this summer remains to be seen, considering the issue that Europeans will face with a possibility of losing a regional (and therefore not having a full regional). I suppose if you were playing when Kanto regionals were in 7km eggs, it could be said that none of those are technically speaking regionals anymore, but we’d be pedantically speaking in that case.
The third (and fourth…and fifth) is the appearance of Snivy, Tepig and Oshawott in the image. If you aren’t aware, they are the starters of the Unova region. Last year, Niantic teased the Sinnoh starters for their summer event. So if that’s anything to go by, we may see a release of at least some Gen 5 Pokemon by the end of the year. We wouldn’t likely get them during this event. But hey, this is all speculation.
Also seeing Garchomp makes me sad that I still don’t have a Gible.
