We Need To Talk About This: Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee

I woke up a couple of hours ago to some big news. It was hinted that there would be a reveal of some kind, but tired and bored me went to bed before midnight. Boo.

It turns out, that the heavily-rumoured new Pokemon games, Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, have been fully confirmed for the Switch to be released this year, with a main series game set for release in 2019 as well.

The game will be set in Kanto, as a sort of reimagining of Pokemon Yellow, not as a remake like first rumoured. The trailer features heavy ties to Pokemon Go, where you can transfer your Kanto Pokemon from Go over to Let’s Go, and vice versa – this may be the way to bring that last Gen 1 regional to your game (goddamn Tauros). The Let’s Go will not feature wild Pokemon battles, but will feature a catch sequence just like Go, where you use the Joy-Con to catch Pokemon. You can also see these Pokemon on the map and choose whether or not you encounter them. Additionally, you can purchase a Poke Ball Plus, which you can also use to control the game and carry around with you, even when not playing. You can still battle trainers, and even have a friend drop in to help you along the way!

The graphics look nothing short of amazing for a Pokemon game. These graphics would have been impossible to implement on the 3DS, and I hope that this is the same level of graphics we see in the next main series games.

The other main addition that everyone cried out for since HeartGold and SoulSilver is the ability to walk with your Pokemon – and not just Pikachu or Eevee. You can walk with another Pokemon besides your trusty companion!

All in all, this offers the simplicity of Go, with the gameplay mechanics of the main series games.

Also confirmed are some Alolan forms being brought in, as well as a special Pokemon that we haven’t seen before…

In celebration of this news, Alolan Exeggutor has been spotted in the wild in Pokemon Go. Currently, it is the only way to obtain an Alolan Exeggutor – evolving an Exeggcute will only grant you the Kantonian Exeggutor. Just look out for big-ass palm trees, they’re Grass/Dragon type, so get as many as you can for the gold Dragon medal!

Am I excited for the new games? Yes. Do I still need a Switch? Hell yeah I do. Who will be my partner?

Eevee. Eevee every time.
